Korea was founded 5,000 years ago. It was taken over by Japan in 1905 after the Russo-Japanese war. It was then divided into North and South Korea in 1945. In 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea when the Communist Russians took control. This started the 1950 to 1953 Korean War. Kim Sung I ruled North Korea from 1984 until he died in 1994. His son, Kim Jong I, took over from him.
